The *Lutung Kasarung* musical,
performed by EKI Dance Company,
directed by Ara Ajisiwi with musical
direction by Oni Krisnerwinto, is
infused with comedy, dynamic theater
performances, dance, and captivating
songs, all enhanced by multimedia
elements that immerse the audience in
the story’s atmosphere.
*Lutung Kasarung* is a legend from
the Sundanese lands, telling the story of
Sanghyang Guruminda, who descends
to Earth in the form of an ugly lutung
(monkey). He helps a princess named
Purbasari.
Purbasari is cursed by her evil sister,
Purbararang, who afflicts her with a skin
disease, causing her skin to blister, ooze,
and emit a foul smell. She is eventually
exiled into the forest, where she meets
Lutung Kasarung.
The lutung assists Purbasari in
returning to the palace and reclaiming
her rightful place, which was stolen by
Purbararang.
The performance is further enlivened
by special guest appearances from Gerry
Gerardo and Uli Herdi.
Nala Amrytha, who serves as the
producer and plays Purbasari, mentioned
that the *Lutung Kasarung* story carries
many moral and cultural values, such as
forgiveness, not to look down on others,
and avoiding cruelty, arrogance, and
envy.
Nala hopes that the show, held at the
Auditorium Indonesia Kaya in Jakarta,
will entertain and provide meaningful
insights to art enthusiasts.. n
